A picture of Aliya Shagieva showing her breastfeeding her child has emerged and has sparked a controversy. Aliya is the youngest daughter of the Kyrgyz prsident Mr Almazbek Atambayev. Aliya uploaded the picture to promote breastfeeding and to discourage sexism. The gesture has sparked debates and the picture has not been taken easy by the President himself who is not happy about it.
Aliya stands by her decision and told BC that “This body I’ve been given is not vulgar. It is functional, its purpose is to fulfil the physiological needs of my baby, not to be sexualised,”
