Social Media is a double-edged weapon as the internet has turned this world a global village. Social media has many benefits in general and specifically in academic fields. we also witness that Facebook is used for business and everyone is talking about earning from internet. Many social and internet experts have earned handsomely internet. Our every project is now put online, a university or a college student may not be able to complete his work without internet and also we contact our beloved ones around the world with help of social media. Moreover, we also can become the voice of downtrodden using the social media. Still the social media is a dangerous medium at the same time.

Social media has got involved not in our online life but the social lives as well. Today we are facing serious problems due to excessive use of social media. I will highlight some basic problems which are caused by social media. It causes health problems. Our teenagers are also its users and Scientific research has shown that social media is harming the mental health of teenagers. As we know that smart phones are available at very low prices in the market, everyone around us seems to have a world of his/her own. we witness that Students as well as professional people are addicted to this illustrious world. The values of relations have been eradicated by social media and we see that people are more online and do not give time to their families which causes furry in the families. the social media has severely ruined the social life of people and even if they meet they remain interested in checking their social media activity ignoring the friends or family around. an early sleep is not only healthy but also a Sunnah of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH), but due to social media even very religious people are seen online till very late in night. moreover, people spend a lot on internet bills. A country like Pakistan, with less income resources, where internet packages are expensive, people are spending thousand to have internet packages and are exploited by the internet providers.  One of the worst outcome of this social media love is that we have lost the habit of book reading. previously, book reading was a norm and was encouraged by parents, teachers and elders. whereas, now even those encouraging elders are more interested in social media and do not give any serious attention to encourage the young to adopt book reading.  it has resulted into deficiency of proper information and education. our youngsters get more attracted to either the porn sites or the ideologies which promote extremism. “Daesh” or Islamic State like terrorist organizations are also using social media to spread their views. Therefore we must avoid excessive use of social media and it must be not only regulated but continuously supervised.
